Robbies Red - Adur Brewery Ltd ELVA ALE - she goes!

ELVA

... the name lives on

The was much interest and some amusement when I first asked the White Brewery in Bexhill to produce some 'Elva Ale'.

Many bottles were sold for drinking or to kept by Elva people for display as a collectors item.

Having met with historic race car and brewery owner Anthony Goddard, we then ordered further supplies from the highly regarded Goddards Brewery on the Isle-of-Wight and the beer was well received and included a batch celebrating our involvement at Sebring in 2008.

However, I really wanted to keep production as close to the home of Elva as possible.

I have struck gold in persuading the nearby Adur Brewery to produce a unique and rather special beer which we have named ROBBIE'S RED in memory of a true gentleman and great driver. With an ABV of 5.2%, this bottle-condition beer is without doubt the best yet!

Traditional ale specially brewed in Bexhill

Hugely proud of his Scottish heritage, Robbie Mackenzie-Low was living in Bexhill in the 1950's when he joined the Elva Racing Team as a 'works' driver. He collected many trophies before moving to the States, but was reunited with his Elva-Climax at the first Goodwood Revival in 1998. Robbie ... he goes!

Our initial trial brew has almost sold out with a matter of days but do not despair as further brews will continue and will become part of the range of truly wonderful beers offered by owner brewer Andy Dwelly at the Steyning based Adur Brewery. Fantastic label too!!

A review...
(going into the CAMRA Good Beer Guide for 2011)

Robbie's Red (OG 1050, ABV 5.2%)
Strong red-brown ale, with an aroma of malt and hops.
Slight initial sweetness leads into complex flavours including smoky
orange peel and a satisfying bitterness which persists into the long finish.
